The Halloween remnants

While it is November, I am not completely ready to give up on the greatest holiday of the year, Halloween …

In the excitement of trick or treating and the disappointment of reality that comes with the goodness of life, I neglected to mention a really cool Instagram post the other day from Jamie Lee Curtis, as seen here:

It looks to be a PR image that was taken most likely when a bunch of others were.. I suspect we will see more hints of the film as the upcoming year happens.

Most of the HALLOWEEN franchise since the original John Carpenter films have been atrocious.. The years where Moustafa Akkad, since killed in a terrorist attack, ran the show they got even worse. Busta Rhymes and H20? …No. Rob Zombie? Even worse. This new Halloween reboot will be written by the team of David Gordon Green and Danny McBride. Original series director John Carpenter said he is even interested in composing music for the new feature.

It is bound to be better than what we have seen since the original …

This also makes me feel a bit aged. I recall H20–Halloween 20 years after the original in 1998. That was the movie that Laurie Strode was supposed to finally defeat we brother. I mean, she chopped his damn head off. A year later he came back to get her … The guy never ages.

The new film, now being dubbed H40, is supposed to simply ignore everything that happened since Michael Myers roamed the hospital hallways in HALLOWEEN 2. Forty years on.. By now he should be about 60- years old.. Near retirement age. Up there in years.. nearly over the hill.

I think the exclusion of Donald Pleasance will be sad. As always. The guy MADE the original films. Loomis was the character we all came to mostly love and laugh at. The over the top lines and the next to embarrassing over-reactions were almost what made the original two films the horror classics they have become.

But one apparent leap that the makers of the newest film have to overcome: The pop culture deficit concerning Michael Myers.

Recently STRANGER THINGS 2 did an homage to Michael Myers by having the character Mad Max played by Sadie Sink dress up like him for a jump scare in the series:

But the telling part was listening to Sadie the Netflix talk show about STRANGER THINGS saying she had no idea who Michel years was! Even though STRANGER THINGS makers told her to watch HALLOWEEN, and that it was a classic..

That is first showcasing how amazing and brilliant STRANGER THINGS is, making us believe that kids from the 21st century actually have awareness of 1980s pop culture, but also that people from the 21st century are going to have to get to know Michael Myers and Laurie Strode all over again.

The Rabbit in Red. Strode Realty.. the quaint town of Haddonfield. The music of John Carpenter. Horror fans will be fine. It’s the masses that have to come back.

This year’s popular IT remake perhaps shows that nostalgia is en vogue.. But H40 comes out one year from now. Will we be tired of nostalgia by then? Or crave more..?

Filmmakers are betting on a resurgence of the past … They picked a date.

And by God, I can’t wait.
