About Bryan

Blogging from deep in the heart of the Coal Region of Pennsylvania with pride. Sometimes.
An attempt to have a voice in a world filled with noise. With an echo.
Here is how I’d like someone else to describe this website.
Bryan Smolock’s blog, Coal Speaker, fills a void in many people’s lives. It brings humor along with analysis of today’s most amazing and newsworthy events. Smolock delves deep into important topics that shape our everyday lives. Smolock sports a thick tin foil hat in order to continue keeping sane, and is in the process of building a thick concrete bunker to get ready for the impending alien strike on the planet Earth, or the kill shot solar flare, whichever comes first. Smolock married his wife Tara in 2007, and had his first child, Ayden, in February 2011. We have a family pet named Mutley the Dog.

But since no one else is describing me, I will do it myself.
If I had to describe myself in one word it would be difficult. I’d have to take several: Student, employee by day, blogger by night, husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, observer, conspiratorial thinker, and someone who sees life going by very fast.
I was born in Centralia, PA, in the heart of the Coal Region. Made to move in the late 80s, I grew up marching to a sole drum, questioning authority but respecting it, and learning to cook due to my lifelong goal of having a restaurant. Until then, I’ll be the grunt of the joke. The worker bee.. or the social butterfly. Whatever you want to call me.. just let me and my family be.

The interests I have are showcased: Current events, weather, parenting, paranormal, conspiracy theory theories, politics, strange, crime, and nostalgia. Stick around and read, and feel free to contact me any time.

“There are no accidents in my philosophy. Every effect must have its cause. The past is the cause of the present, and the present will be the cause of the future. All these are links in the endless chain stretching from the finite to the infinite” -Abraham Lincoln

“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. Corporations have been enthroned an era of corruption in high places will follow and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working on the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the republic is destroyed” —Abraham Lincoln

“And if you’re bored it’s because you’re boring.” —Matt Drudge
“Was anything real?” — Truman Burbank
