Blumhouse announced this week with some fanfare that legendary scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis will reprise her role as Laurie Strode when the new Halloween movie opens on October 19, 2018.
This is not a sequel of news films .. it ignores H20 and Resurrection, instead focusing on being a sequel to the second movie..
From the press release:
Curtis “come to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.”
The release continues: “Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film.”
Exciting stuff..
To a degree.
I am of the mind that the original HALLOWEEN was enough.. the final sequence where Michael Myers vanishes from the grass as the piano music from John Carpenter panned up was the most frightening way to end a movie .. the SHAPE still being ‘out there’ .. never found. The endless mystery.
And I liked Carpenter’s original concept way back then that every HALLOWEEN movie would have a new storyline, somewhat like a CREEPSHOW every year in theaters. HALLOWEEN 3 was enough of a flop to ensure that never occurred.
This new movie has some promise. It is as though Halloween 2 just ended.. it goes from there. It also ignores that Jamie Lee Curtis fought Michael Myers in H20. And that she perished in 8.. UGH.. to many.
I will give this a try.. more so than the Rob Zombie atrocities..
