It was a warm and beautiful sunny June 11, 1993. I still remember it like it was yesterday.. It was the last day of school for the year for me before summer.. My mom and brother picked me up and we went to the Fairline Village Mall movie theater in Pottsville Pennsylvania, opening day, to see Jurassic Park.
It was memorizing.. never before did I see something like this in theaters. There was a magical sense to the film, something as a 6th grader turning 7th I believed.
And now, 25 years later to the day, going back and watching the movie seems as magical now as it was then..
Yes there have been sequels, reinventions.. and now JURASSIC WORLD. But something still to this day is completely revolutionary about Jurassic Park.
I am glad Steven Spielberg made it. I understand that there was a chance another director would have been named, even Tim Burton just coming off the fame of BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS. But the 93 film? it was exactly what was needed for the 90s, for the generation.. and 25 years later? The nostalgia is overwhelming …
There cheers for a great movie! Then and now.
It was a cultural moment.. And with the coming box office records to be set by the 2018 dino flick, another cultural moment is on the way.
