The perpetual Groundhog Day

The endless COVID year.. tonight, we are being told of 12+ million Americans testing positive.. 256,000 + as of today dead since the pandemic hit the United States.

So many days in 2020 felt like a routine but mundane nightmare. Moments of the day occurred when it felt dreamlike, but one where a pinch did not wake you from the dreadful impact of the coronavirus.

So many are hopeful of bright and cheery days ahead after a dreary year may be shocked to learn of some big events already being pre-canceled.

New York City News Years Eve.. don’t expect a crowd. It will be only virtual and digital..

In Harrisburg, the famous annual FARM SHOW will be virtual only..

In New Orleans, the famous Mardi Gras celebration (that leaders en masse told people to go to in 2020 despite the COVID concerns!!) is called off.

And perhaps the biggest insult to injury, after a year of daily ‘groundhog’ moments, the real Groundhog Day is going to be only virtual. No crowd. No normal.

Punxsutawney Phil will still be making his appearance on Feb. 2, but there will be no in-person attendance or guests on the grounds due to potential risks of COVID-19.

The live ceremony will be beamed out to media outlets and a live stream will be provided online. Information on the virtual events will be listed on their website.

Music fans keeping track of the prospects can keep track of future cancellations on this website: https://liveforlivemusic.com/news/covid-19-concert-cancellation-tracking/

Conference fans can see their bleak landscape here..

If Phil sees the shadow in ’21, perhaps it means either 6 more weeks of winter.. of several more months of COVID..
