Hannibal regrets the Cannibal: Hopkins didn’t like his second and third attempt at horror icon

It’s true.. Get ready..
Anthony Hopkins regrets reprising his role as Hannibal Lector in both HANNIBAL and RED DRAGON..

And I could not agree more.  Deep down, I know you do too.

Call me crazy. But here’s my thoughts..
Neither film was worthwhile.. Neither film was memorable.. and neither film was necessary.

He was interviewed in THE WRAP. Among the comments:

I did it once. Made the mistake of doing it twice, three times. ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ is okay. It was a good film. No. I don’t want to do that.

Jonathan Barkan from BLOODY DISGUSTING called Hopkins’ words ‘shocking.’

We can not be shocked, though. You will have to admit, this is an honest assessment from a man who regrets being in less than stellar movies that only were made for profit, only used Hopkins for the notoriety he would bring, and offered viewings nothing except shock gross out lame attempts at crime dramas.. They did the books no justice. Hopkins should have backed out immediately after the classic SILENCE OF THE LAMBS–a movie that does properly rate very highly in the horror/crime genre.

Thinking back in time.. Hopkins in Hannibal? Maybe the soundtrack was worthy.. RED DRAGON? Awful. Especially the CGI effects they had to use to make Hopkins look younger–remember it was a prequel..

Anyway.. I think Sir Anthony is a perfectly fine actor who, in the end, is looking back years and saying to himself: Should have scratched that off before I started. I could not agree with him more.
