Drug task force dilemma in Schuylkill County:
bad timing.. bad location.. a community in Schuylkill County PA may be giving up on the County Drug Task Force..
As the opioid epidemic continues to sweep across Pennsylvania, many area police departments are joining county-wide drug initiatives.
But the Mayor of Port Carbon said some of the council members in the borough may want to do the opposite.
In this I-Team exclusive, Mayor Chuck Joy fears that drug activity will only get worse if the community cuts ties with the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force.
The mayor planned to get some answers during Tuesday night’s borough council meeting, but not enough council members showed up, and the meeting was canceled.
Representatives from the Schuylkill County District Attorney’s Office told Eyewitness News they aren’t sure why Port Carbon would want to leave the drug task force, because it’s cost-efficient for the borough.
The mayor said he believes the only expense to the borough involves money contributed to police pensions
Eyewitness News did approach the councilman who canceled the meeting, but he declined to speak about this situation for now.
