So when I was younger, my parents told me never to eat food that flies landed on..
As I aged, that rule got a bit lazier, with me becoming more atrocious in my allowance of bacteria in my stomach from the specimen.
And in comes this study courtesy of PENN STATE..
Researchers at Penn State Eberly College of Science found that common houseflies carry salmonella, e-coli and even bacteria which lead to stomach ulcers and deadly sepsis.

The researchers say flies may have been overlooked by public health officials as a source of disease outbreaks.

Not sure how much this will change me.. I have never been much of a proponent of the ‘5 second rule’ .. On average mine is about a 15 second or so.
This is eye opening, though.
For anyone who has become lazy about their germophobia needs to re-amplify the obvious: Flies kill.
Now we know.
