CDC admits monkeys posed a health risk!

There are several developments being reported tonight raising eyebrows among residents of Danville..

The developing story of the escaped monkeys that began as a meme-inspiring Friday night event has turned more serious: Today the CDC admitted that the animals posed a “health risk.”

WNEP is among those reporting,

The three that escaped posed a health risk to the public, CDC officials told us today. Macaques can pass deadly viruses to humans, so the state police, the Department of Health, and the CDC decided together that it was best to euthanize the animals.

Newswatch 16 spoke to a woman who came in contact with some of the other monkeys right after the crash. She said the CDC asked her to watch out for cold symptoms. Newswatch 16 checked in with her today, and she hasn’t had any.

Meanwhile, the website Harrisburg100 is reporting in an exclusive story that the main witness at the scene (and the person quoted in several publications) has developed symptoms. Michelle Fallon tested negative for COVID but went to the ER Sunday for cold-like symptoms and something resembling pink eye.. The site reports that Fallon has since received her first of four preventative rabies shots and a prescription for a 14-day course of Valacyclovir..

Valacyclovir is used to treat herpes virus infections, including herpes labialis (also known as cold sores), herpes zoster (also known as shingles), and herpes simplex (also known as genital herpes) in adults..

And finally, the story continues to have traction in both national and international publications. The Drudge Report has maintained several links on its page since Friday night. And news from across the pond has been found as well, with the latest article splashing in the UK Tabloid the DAILY STAR.
