It has been hot before.. a review of newspaper headlines from decades past reveal that we have had heat waves in June. but when they happen, and when they happen so early especially, they feel brutal.
They also always remind me of the Frank Miller BATMAN comic, especially this piece of art of a hot and steamy Gotham City baking in a summer heat wave.
The art pictures Gotham’s magnificent twin towers in 97 degree heat.. No relief was on the way. As a matter of fact, later that day the Joker was going to do much more damage on the “David Endochrine Show” …
Heat.. Hot.. hotter..
There is a heat emergency in Washington, D.C., where temperatures could surpass 100 degrees for the first time since 2016.
The dangerous heat will be felt over parts of the mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley and it will expand into other areas as temperatures hit record highs.
There are alerts in southern and central California, which includes Colusa County, where firefighters are battling a fire, which spans across 19,100 acres.
A new warning about the heat wave.. and the government worries you will become a wet bulb. When it gets hot, the human body sweats, and the evaporation of that sweat into the air helps cool the body. But if the humidity in the air is too high, it prevents the evaporation of sweat, depriving the body of its ability to cool itself down.
We have been here before.. here are a few sampling of “Junes” of 1999, 1998, 1978, 1929 and yes the 1700s
Here is a news story from Harrisburg in June 1929 when heat combined with electricity to create a terrible situation:
But welcome to 2024… the summer…
It is like staring down a barrel of a constant stream of oppressive heat..
Days like today feel like the midnight sun from the Twilight Zone is really happening..
PS….. July 2024 is looking kind of the same…
