The final call: Winter over

But is it…?

Today is the final day of official winter .. spring comes tomorrow.

For much of my area, the last week or say does not resemble spring much. As a matter of fact, the sights and sounds of the the previous seven days was more like January than late winter.

However…March is when blizzards happen. The atmosphere is prepped.. the cold is still lingering close by.. both come together at the magic moment–preferably at night–and the surfaces are still cold enough.

Enter this forecast for next week:

That gigantic storm off the East Coast would be the Second Blizzard of 2017. Seriously..

Now before you buy the milk and get overwhelmed by the hype, there are a few things going for the anti-snow lovers. 1) The time of year. 2) The uncertainty of models–other models show a storm but keep it warm. 3) Logic.

But …logic escapes mother nature this year. It was 80 in February in Northeastern Pennsylvania and two weeks later, there was three feet of snow.

The model photo I show is a fantasy run at this point–we are about 6 or so days from knowing what will really occur.

At this point for my zip code, the National Weather Service is going on the warm side. Their forecast:

FridayA chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Chance of precipitation is 30%.Friday NightA chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 30%.SaturdayA chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

But just keep in the back of your mind.. that little possibility that next week snow may fall… Bread and milk may be bought.. and spring may be delayed.

Time will tell. Lots of time for models to get it worked out.
