Could JOKER win an Oscar?

There is a ton of hype concerning Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker for the JOKER movie coming this October – some scenes already seen and released showcase how this movie may be ripe with horror in the autumnal season as opposed to typical comic book summer flare..

Horror movies and comic book films are typically overlooked during awards seasons.. But this movie, we are led to believe by major media, could be different.

Venice Film Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera said this of director Todd Phillips‘ upcoming Joker movie:

Yes, as usual they said they wanted to be in a more protected situation [as with “A Star Is Born” last year, which launched out of competition]. But then [director] Todd Phillips said: “I don’t care if I run the risk of not winning. Why shouldn’t I go in competition when I know what we’ve I’ve got on our hands?”

I have to say, Warners was convinced pretty rapidly, because it’s a really surprising film. It’s the most surprising film we’ve got this year…This one’s going straight to the Oscars even though it’s gritty, dark, violent. It has amazing ambition and scope.

Concerning the darkness that awaits Joker fans.. Rumor has it that Phoenix had his own personal ‘descent into darkness’ for his role.. The movie is also being described as much darker than the DARK KNIGHT, which was already gritty with Heath Ledger playing an extraordinary role as the JOKER for that film.

But Oscar gold?
Heath Ledger won an award after death for his role..
Phoenix and the film itself may be on track to win more for the legends of Gotham City..

And could it win an Oscar!?

This article describes new images being released of the JOKER movie coming this October ..

The first picture features Fleck as a downtrodden, heartbroken man riding through the streets of Gotham. Warner Bros. has described the film is “an exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

The next shot is Fleck taking to his Joker makeup/armor as he cannot deal with Gotham life. Phillips has described his movie as a “tragedy.”

By the third shot, Phoenix’s forgotten Fleck is full-on Joker, the most iconic DC villain. He’s proudly strutting and dancing in the infamous clown villain attire.

“I used to think my life was a tragedy,” Fleck says in the trailer. “But now I realize, it’s a comedy.”
