Jason’s Woods.. Field of Screams.. Pennhurst.. We have come to hear of them all this time of year.. But there may not be much reason to go far to enjoy some cool haunted attractions this month.

So why not celebrate the best time of year with the best locations in the area..

CARDINAL BRENNAN!

A very intelligent write opined once,

There are some real stories–as real as you can get–of hauntings at Cardinal Brennan.. I personally never much had much of an opinion on them.. There is the famed ‘ghost nun’ idea of the third floor–no sightings of her ever happened for me.

Years ago not only did friends and I love violating the rules of signage erected by exploring dark rooms in the deep trenches of the school, but I was alone in Cardinal Brennan on several occasions in my youth. I never experienced anything scary.. instead there was always a warm glow to whatever spirits may exist there. There is some form of strange happiness that can still be felt inside the cold walls

That writer was me in an article about the Cardinal Brennan haunted house that benefits the North Schuylkill soccer teams. It’s an amazing little event that showcases the former amazing high school and the always amazing horror of the season. It’s worth the night out.. Believe me..

There event will take place October 18, 19, 25, and 26.

The ELYSBURG HAUNTED HOUSE

You’ve seen the signs.. you’ve most likely experienced the location.. The Elysburg Haunted house is one of the most fun places to get scares in the area this season. And amazingly it is the 43rd annual event!

This has been a fixture in our lives for that long.. And now parents who went as kids are bringing theirs.. It’s amazing that it continues, and it’s also spot on one of the best attractions this season..

It’s final days are sadly coming, but you have time.

It’s still open October 12, 18, 19, 25, and 26..

Prepare to stay scared ..

The Old Jail!

This is the crown jewel of history and macabre combined..

The building is best known as the site of the hanging of seven Irish coal miners known
as Molly Maguires in the 1800s.  On June 21, 1877, today known as the Day of the
Rope, Alexander Campbell, Edward Kelly, Michael Doyle and John Donohue were
hanged at the same time on gallows erected inside the Old Jail Museum cell block.  On
March 28, 1878, Thomas P. Fisher was hanged here, and on January 14, 1879,
James McDonnell and Charles Sharp were hanged on the same gallows. It is rumored that before his hanging one  man put his hand on the dirty floor of his cell and then placed it firmly on the wall proclaiming, ” This handprint will remain as proof of my innocence.”  That handprint is visible today for everyone to view even though past wardens tried to eradicate it by washing it, painting it, and even taking down part of the wall and re-plastering it. The handprint was originally thought to be Alexander Campbell’s, but after research, it is now thought to be Thomas Fisher’s.

There is no reason you should forget about this location — and also enjoy Jim Thorpe as well.. On October 12, 19, and 26, doors open at 6pm and the last tour departs at 9pm.

And finally to round out the top 5, the Halls of Horror in Palmerton..

If you’re in the mood for a bloodier experience..

Halls of Horror haunted house is not for the lightweight horror fan or those who are sensitive to abusive language and mature content.  They love Halloween and spend all year long getting ready to give you the best scare of your life.

RELEASE FORMS ARE REQUIRED.. It’s that type of place. 🙂

You can visit October 12, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27.. After Halloween Nov 1 and 2
