Covid-19 Nightmares and No-Escapes

My father and I were looking out of the window in his kitchen .. my 9-year-old son was busy with a Pokemon toy, shaped like a cross, digging in the dirt.. I wanted to yell out, commanding him to stop. But my dad told me not to.. when I looked out next I saw my grandfather–my dad’s dad–helping my son dig holes… Before I knew it, people who were residents of the nursing home where my mom is living right now were walking towards the square-shaped holes in the dirt.. And they were younger, they were happier.

This was all a dream–a reoccurring dream I have been having over the previous two weeks..

I never met met grandfather on either my mom or dad’s side, they both passed away before I was born. But this dream I have been having has been really, really real.. Very visceral.

The barbaric yawp! Your dream

I asked a fellow speaker of coal at the Coal Region Canary if there were any bad dreams there.. The response:

idk what you’re talking about. last night, I woke up in the middle of the night hugging Joel Embiid and we were both crying because we’d just lost to Toronto again

All of this brought up a question in my mind that I decided to ask on my personal Facebook page..

How have you been sleeping lately, I pondered.. I asked friends.. any crazy dreams?

Yes! Indeed..

NIGHTMARES AND DREAM NO ESCAPES

The post had some fast responses from people who shared some of their most primal dreams.. Their barbaric yawps.

One friend posted that she even murdered her own child in her nightmare.. That counts, I responded..

One by one, people I know are stating that they are having both the strangest sleep patterns they have ever had, waking up at least 2 to 4 times per night, and also having some of the most vivid and memorable dreams they have ever experienced.

And the experience goes well beyond people in my circle of acquaintances..

This past week, a thread on Twitter got some traction.. A reporter for a Wisconsin news station asked a simple question: Has anyone been having strange dreams lately? Countless people from various states and locations responded in kind.. YES! Dramatically strange dreams.. realistic and bizarre night terrors..

Late this week, Market Watch ran an article about how 1 in 5 people are staying awake or stopping intimacy with partners due to stresses over COVID-19..

Also people are having vivid, memorable dreams.. A dream expert has been widely quoted in various sources as to why.

Professor Mark Blagrove, an expert in sleep and dreaming at Swansea University’s department of psychology has explained that cabin fever, financial pressures and lack of stimulation from being indoors so much is wreaking havoc on sleep patterns around quarantined nations..

“Many people will have experienced a change in their circumstances recently, and any type of stress may be dreamt about. Some people will be having a life that is more boring than previously. But there will be a lot of people who have more stress, possibly because they are with the people who they wouldn’t spend so long with as a proportion of the day. It may be discomforting, it may be extremely stressful and dangerous for people in domestic violence situations. You then have the extra things like financial worries, employment worries, worries about your children.”

According to the expert, there can be a metaphorical “replication of life in dreams” which focuses on our “more emotional side.”

Professor Blagrove explained:

“For a lot of people, they won’t dream about their working life because, generally, it’s not that interesting. But if the current situation gives people more interesting things happening, it may happen that people are dreaming more.”

It would appear that the expert is right..

The amount of dream stories being told online are remarkable.

You have been asked to stay in your home.. you have been asked to become a NPC, or non player character.. And all the while you’re at the whim of your deepest and darkness emotions and fears…

MAKE YOUR STAND

Meet Mother Abigail, she’s 108-years-old and she still bakes her own bread.

And in Stephen King’s THE STAND, countless people dreamed of her in her small little home in a cornfield in Hemingford Home, Nebraska..

Earlier in March, prior to global lockdowns and pandemic fears, Stephen King said that COVID-19 didn’t have anything on Captain Trips!

He said that the coronavirus was not anywhere near as serious as the virus in his novel. But that did not stop the horror icon from posting the chapter from THE STAND that showcased the way that the super-flu started.

Mother Abigail was the unifying force in King’s end times story.. She geared up an army for the battle of God vs. the Devil..

In our modern era, we are fractured and torn..

The Catholic Church has become obsolete as it tells is parishioners that Easter Mass is canceled and they can eat meat on Fridays–during Lent!

But DAT ASH…

There’s no Mother Abigail to unite us right now..

There’s only a crazy haphazard amount of strange dreams ranging from the comical to the macabre, as trauma is doused on populations across the planet.

Our world has always been chaotic.. It has always been just one hair trigger away from true madness .. are we devolving into that portal of no return? Or .. is this just a blip on the human radar.. Just a moment in time.

A moment in time that has been busy giving people nightmares and terrors across the planet.
