Officials are investigating a blast in Schuylkill County today

A shock Blast in Schuylkill County today has made national news..

This was reported this early afternoon:

Jolliet, Dynamite Truck explosion: Multiple injuries. Life Flight on site..

As the hours now developed, we have learned more information about the event.

According to the Joliett Fire Department, crews responded to a report of an explosion around 12:26 p.m. on the property of Stavola Summit Materials about two miles from the Joliett Fire Company. However early reports stated the blast happened before noon.

The deputy chief is not confirming what exactly caused the explosion at this time…

However it is being reported that at least five have been injured.. One person was confirmed to have been flown by helicopter for medical care.

The United States Mine Safety and Health Administration and the Department of Environmental Protection are in charge of the investigation at this time..

According to reports, the blast was heard as far as Lavelle and even near Northumberland county..

In a flashback, a few weeks ago, it was reported that residents were complaining about odors in the air.. at the time, the Republican HERALD reported,

Two Schuylkill County municipalities are taking steps to clear the air. Porter Twp. residents want officials to address noxious odors and other problems from biosolid processing. Meanwhile, a proposed ordinance in Norwegian Twp. dealing with the stench from a medical marijuana facility may mean action on the matter. Residents of the Good Spring section of Porter say they have dealt with smells from nearby Natural Soil Products and Stavola Summit Quarry.

At the time, it was reported that officials from Porter and Frailey townships, the state DEP and Natural Soil Products have met at the facility to discuss the problems there.
