A record set for jump scares!

We are in the middle of the MIDNIGHT CLUB.. it’s Michael Flanagan’s newest series on Netflix.. It was released on October 7, just in time for the Halloween season.

So far so good. WE highly praised other series from Flanagan, including the most recent MIDNIGHT MASS in 2021. Also the HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE.. but for us, we cannot forget the amazing acting and cool story of HUSH, one of the greater horror movies we have seen because it is a slasher with passion and emotion. Flanagan is great in injecting real emotion into what he does, giving characters a breadth of personality and story..

Bravo.

But one episode stood out as one of the most memorable. And it set a ‘jump scare’ record in the Guinness Book of World Records!

While some are claiming this is not the best work of Flanagan, we like it. It’s got a modern horror, adult themed ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK-ish 90’s Nick vibe to it.

Also you can read this cool interview with Flanagan on NPR about MIDNIGHT CLUB.. From the interview:

The Midnight Club is based on a book I read when I was in high school by Christopher Pike. If you were into horror, very young as a reader, you started with R.L. Stine and then you kind of graduated to Christopher Pike. And then if you kind of stuck with the genre, you were after Stephen King after that.

It was such a formative part of my life. And The Midnight Club was one that really kind of hit me in the heart and dealt with death and mortality in a way that I was not expecting to be confronted with at that age. This is my kind of nostalgic attempt to dig into what got me into horror in the first place.

And it reminded me of how amazing 90s music was after all..
