Evidence of amazing Aba parades from the past–on video!!

As they say, ask and ye shall receive.

Just yesterday I wrote that it would be my last Ashland Boys Association post for the year. I lied—but not intentionally. Some cool information came my way courtesy of Pat Coombe and Michael Gough.

In that last post, I mentioned how I was hopeful that someone, somewhere, still had VHS footage of the old ABA parades. Well, little did I know there are people actively digitizing some of that footage right now. Pat and Mike had recorded the 1994 parade and have since fully digitized it. Pat also shared that he may be able to get me the video.. but in the meantime, he also sent along some amazing screenshots pulled straight from the tape.

And let me tell you—this screams 1990s. From the Ashland meter maid in full garb patrolling the mean streets for parking violations, to Barney balloons floating above the crowd, the mid-nineties vibe is strong. If I’m not mistaken, 1994 was a particularly good year for the parade.

So enjoy these and maybe at some point we’ll get to share the actual video too. Keeping memories alive—one moldy VHS at a time.

And if there’s any one lesson we’re seeing from the street vendors that says Barney was the big seller in 1994.
