The state of our Christmas: Coke promises to be the real thing except when it uses AI advertising

So here’s the scoop: Coca-Cola’s new AI ad took about 70,000 prompts to create, and in the end, it cost just as much as their traditional big-budget ads. They didn’t really save money this time around, but they did get a lot of buzz and a unique final product.

Now, let’s put this into perspective.

Right now, AI isn’t really cheaper than using real people or CGI. Companies are still spending millions, and that’s because we’re in this in-between phase.

But it’s a glimpse into the future: just a few years ago, AI couldn’t make anything this convincing. Remember when AI gave Will Smith 25 fingers eating spaghetti? Now, it’s sometimes hard to tell AI from reality.

Watch the ad and see what you think..

Of course, there’s criticism. People can tell the ad’s not entirely real: the people look a bit off, and the truck changes from shot to shot.

But it’s still miles ahead of what AI could do just a few years back. And if you showed this ad in the 1960s, people would have no clue it was AI.

Ultimately, we’re all using AI more and more. It’s like how we embraced Google in the 90s. The question is: does knowing an ad is AI-made change how you feel about it?

Maybe it does if you know, but if you don’t, you might just enjoy it like any other ad.

And that’s the conversation we’re starting to have.

But until that.. let’s go back to the REAL thing.. No, not Coke itself, but the ad from decades ago using real actual people and a truck. Simple.. and it took less than 70,000 prompts to create something that was a little more meaningful..
