Something very strange is going to get binge watched

just watched Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, which was created in part by The Duffer Brothers of Stranger Things lore. It was something… quite the binge watch for a beautiful spring Sunday afternoon, with a gory evening to end it.

Now, we won’t give too many spoilers, but if you don’t want any spoilers at all, just don’t read this.. watch it for yourself. I often implore anyone to watch everything for themselves instead of reading reviews anyway, because only you can decide if you like something. Heck, I cry like a baby at the movie Click, so there’s that.

This series reminded me of It Follows on steroids.. but not necessarily about a sexually transmitted disease. Instead, it’s about bad marriage and the alignment of souls not happening, with people sort of going through the motions and pretending that it did happen.

I’m not going to say there wasn’t boring dialogue from episodes 3 through 6, and I’m not going to say that by episodes 5 through 7 I just wanted it to end. Episode 1 and 2 set up the show pretty well and the final conclusion in episode 8 sort of gave you all the action that you needed to see to summarize the show perfectly.

If you want a bit of a spoiler, let’s go, it’s because there’s a curse in this show—one where if you don’t marry the right person, you bleed out. Literally. You just hemorrhage.

Not really sure the exact reason for the bloodline curse, and not really sure why the crazy actor who played Victor Von Doom from Fantastic Four was the purveyor of the curse, but he was.

And say what you will about the ending… pretty sure the fiancé who initially rejected marriage, and then, because his entire family was bleeding out all over their wedding tables, in desperation decided to marry his spouse, who then bled out, but then seemingly woke up hours later in a pool of her dried blood alive again because the Zlatko Burić met his fate.

And I know you can’t look the dogs in the eye, and I’m not sure why there was a dog at the end guarding a door, but that whole thing happened.

So yeah… it was a bit sloppy and messy and weird and very trippy.

And very very dark! Like, not just metaphorically dark, but just dark. Don’t watch during the day and if you do, make sure you close your blackout curtains.. The show is tough to visually see..

But again, I’ll give it a solid six out of ten. Quite frankly, for The Duffer Brothers, episode 8 of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen may have been much stronger than episode 8 of the Stranger Things finale. So there’s that.
Later tonight, for some fun, maybe I’ll watch the ending sequence again to the song Purple Rain just to see if the Duffers set that up—like if you play Pink Floyd during The Wizard of Oz.
You have to give it a try yourself.
But in the meantime… Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.
